Newport - Salary £47,400 - £55,499 plus benefits

Are you a driven and experienced IT Architect who is passionate about utilise your technical knowledge and experience architect and develop IT solutions? If so, my client is currently recruit an IT Architect to join their team.

As a Head of Core Data Architecture you will be responsible for leading the team that will carry out the bulk of the work in the Data Architecture function, including the understanding of the as-is and the design of the to-be situations.

The main responsibilities of the post are:

  • Ensure the team is working to the standards set for the organisation by the Chief Data Architect
  • Oversee the design of data models and metadata systems and help the Chief Data Architect to interpretbusiness needs.
  • Support the Chief Data Architect championing data architecture across the ONS, and help setting the standards and ways of working for the data architecture community
  • Manage the project team and actively contribute to the development of the architecture supporting
  • ONS’s full data life-cycle
  • Assist the Chief Data Architect ensuring that the organisation systems are designed in accordance with the data architecture

Person specification
You will need to demonstrate the following set of skills:

  • Data Standards and Strategy - Investigates, develops and sets data standards across multiple subject areas. Acts as the first escalation point for breaches of data standards and makes recommendations regarding how the organisation should resolve that breach.
  • Metadata Management - Designs an appropriate metadata repository and presents changes to existing metadata repositories. Understands a range of tools for storing and working with metadata. Provides oversight and advice to more inexperienced members of the team.
  • Data modelling - Understands the concepts and principles of data modelling and is able to produce relevant data models across multiple subject areas. Reverse engineers data models from a live system.
  • Understands industry recognised data modelling patterns and standards and when to apply them.
  • Compares and aligns different data models.
  • Data Analysis & Synthesis - Undertakes data profiling and source system analysis and can present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data.
  • Data Governance - Knows how to assure and integrate data services to meet the needs of multiple business services. Works proactively to ensure the organisation designs architecture that considers data.
  • Strategic Thinking - Works within a strategic context and communicates how activities meet strategic goals.
  • Problem resolution - Ensures that the most appropriate actions are taken to resolve problems as theyoccur. Coordinates teams to resolve problems and implement solutions and preventative measures.
  • Turning business problems into data design - Works with business and technology stakeholders to translate business problems into data designs. Creates optimal designs through iterative processes, aligning user needs with organisational objectives and system requirements.
