Permanent – Salary £39,333 - £45,232 plus excellent benefits


PNC (Police National Computer) Services is responsible for the delivery of a number of national ICT systems to all police forces and other criminal justice partners. These include PNC, SIS11 ViSOR, NDNAD, NFLMS, NABIS and CRASH. These services are based at the main primary site (Hendon). The primary site also hosts services for Third Parties. There is also a secondary site that provides a ‘hot stand by’ Disaster Recovery solution.

Primary Purpose

To ensure adequate IT infrastructure is available to meet current and future demands of Police Live Services business by providing information to management on forthcoming resource needs for projected growth of existing and future Police Live Services applications including, but not limited to disc storage.

This role sits within their live services team who are undergoing an exciting large IT transformation programme.

Key Responsibilities


  • The post holder’s role forms a strategic part in achieving the business plans of PNC service, with particular emphasis on the ability to meet a number of Service Levels, alongside provision of information on the sizing and upgrading needed for the underlying hardware architecture.

Internal and External Operational Activity

  • Analyse and report to Senior Management, Project Managers and external Customers on information relating to business and capacity requirements for PNC services to assess the impact this will have on the ability of the business to meet the agreed service levels, and key business objectives.
  • Enable forecasting of proposed growth, changes and new projects, and to assess their impact on the business and services through the use of specialist simulation modelling tools such as CA’s Capacity Management and NetFsuion’s ProSim.
  • To assess, analyse, monitor and review the impact of proposed changes relating to the disks as part of the ITIL defined change management process.
  • To undertake an annual disk survey to determine future requirements for budgetary purposes and to undertake regular audits of disk utilisation. To take the procurement for new and/or additional disks forward and to keep all stakeholders appraised of the situation.
  • Assist in the planning of the team resource plan for both the day to day activities, as well as more formal project work.
  • Ensure adherence to the agreed processes and procedures within the Capacity Management section, and in particular those relating to data collection for capacity planning activities and disk management.
  • Ensure adherence to the processes and procedures for the emerging performance testing function in relation to those tests needed to build the capacity models – T1, T2 and T3.
  • To assess change requests and to allocate disks as defined and to ensure that this is done in the most effective way taking into account any security, performance and resilience considerations.
