Senior Financial Accountant

Sellick Partnership are recruiting on behalf of an established not for profit client in Manchester, for a Senior Financial Accountant. The main purpose of this role is to lead and, manage the day to day work of the Financial Accounts team. Reporting to the Finance Manager you will be overseeing the accounts payable and receivable teams. You will be accountable for overseeing and authorising the weekly payment run process for grants, purchase ledger and expenses. You will also manage the month-end closing timetable and review and sign off relevant month-end reconciliations, oversee and authorise weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts and treasury/cash requirements.

Key responsibilities of the Senior Financial Accountant:

  • You will be accountable for the submissions of various returns, such as VAT returns and other information
  • You will authorise appropriate debt management actions according to circumstances and nature of the debt
  • You will lead, develop and monitor performance against the relevant sections of the service level agreement, monitor and report on compliance with relevant policy
  • You will act as the recovery manage for grant payments, receivables, and purchase ledger as part of the business continuity programme
  • You will assist with upgrades of the financial system
  • You will promote efficiency and effectiveness across processes that impact financial accounts, such as register of interests as well as within the areas of purchase ledger and payments and receivables, seeking to add value to these areas and provide coaching, support and guidance across the organisation as required to ensure people are competent in financial accounts procedures and practice

Required skills and experience of the Senior Financial Accountant

  • AAT or CCAB part-qualified or equivalent
  • Proven experience of financial accounting
  • Experience of managing a purchase and sales ledger function, within a medium or large scale organisation
  • Strong financial management and budgeting skills
  • Good understanding of financial reporting standards, including IFRS and FRS102
  • Highly developed leadership skills, with a proven track record of leading high performance teams

It is essential that you have prior experience of working for a not for profit organisation, coupled with financial accounts exposure.
