SDET – Developer in Test

Permanent position based in Swansea OR Bristol - £37,428 - £42,991. These roles may also attract a DigiTec allowance of up to £10k depending on skills and experience.

Join the DVLA as a Software Development Engineer in Test, and you’ll help build world class digital services that pave the way for future business transformation.

You’ll be part of the programme that’s migrating legacy technology onto new, cloud-based platforms. You’ll work in team that designs and implements efficient, supportable applications that meet cost, resource and customer requirements. You role will be to encourage developers and testers to design and implement tests in an efficient way by providing them with the right tools, frameworks, and infrastructure.

Our development teams need to rapidly, deploy code several times each day and remain confident that test infrastructure will provide short feedback loops on issues introduced. We are looking for someone who’s a strong enough developer to write feature code, strong enough tester to test about anything, and an advocate for maintaining a high quality bar.

You’ll partner with developers and test engineers to improve and automate test and release, contribute to the team’s effectiveness and efficiency through setting an example of best SW development practices and Enable and encourage developers to design and implement tests in an efficient way by providing them with the right tools, frameworks, and infrastructure.

We’re looking for SDETs who have experience of working as part of a flexible software delivery team working in a variety of styles, including Agile, and who also have experience in a range of OO languages, test automation tooling and the CI/CD methodology.

Essential Experience

  • 6/7 years experience in application development using recognised programming languages
  • Experience in leading the design, development, testing, quality assurance of bespoke applications using recognised programming language
  • Ability to demonstrate the competencies to rapidly acquire the skills in another development language
  • Experience in mentoring Developers
  • Experience in system support and continuous improvement
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written communication skills including reports, and technical specifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively to customers at all levels of the business

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of working within an agile system development methodology particularly Scrum.
  • Willingness to occasional travel across the UK with some overnight stays where necessary
