Strategic Lawyer – Contract until 29/03/18 - £32.16 Umbrella and up to £25.74 PAYE – Central London

Advantage Resourcing are working closely with a major Government official recruiting for a Strategic Lawyer with Public Law experience to join their dynamic team.

The Role

To provide temporary assistance with advice to the Medicines and Healthcare on its operational and policy work. Working within a team of Department of Health and Social Care lawyers who are dedicated to advising on medicines regulation. This involves work such as responding to ad-hoc requests for advice on its operational work of licensing medicines for use in the UK, considering conflicts of interest which might arise amongst members of its expert scientific committees and considering the implications of referrals and judgments.

Main Duties:

  • Provide robust risk based advice
  • Conduct of a complex [Planning] and/or [Public Law] litigation caseload.
  • Complying with tight Court and client deadlines.
  • Attending Court hearings with Counsel including in the Regional Courts.
  • Drafting detailed advice on legal merits, risks and litigation strategy.
  • Drafting detailed instructions to Counsel.
  • Assisting colleagues with their caseloads when necessary.
  • Assisting with the team’s knowledge management/sharing objectives and providing input into client legal awareness projects.
  • Attending and contributing to team meetings.
  • Achieving personal chargeable hours targets.

The Successful Candidate:

  • LPC/BVC/BPTC qualified lawyer (barrister or solicitor) & Degree level
  • Strong Public law civil litigation experience is desirable
  • Good drafting and written skills essential
  • Ability to meet time and billing targets essential
  • Experience in managing a busy civil litigation caseload essential.
  • Public sector/Central Government experience desirable but not essential
