Assistant Economist

Location – central London

Pay - £380 per day (PAYE) / £500 per day (Umb. Comp.)

Contract Length: 3 Months with potential to extend for the right candidate

Full time hours - Monday - Friday

Minimum Requirement: Economist specialty role – a qualified economist – familiar with the treasury’s green book guidance and the governments approach to impact assessment

The candidate must be a member of the Government Economics Service (GES) and hold a degree in Economics or an economics-related subject.

Additionally, they should demonstrate:

• Strong core economics and analytical skills, with experience applying these in a policy or project delivery context, including cost-benefit analysis, Green Book business case development and economic evaluation.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience of producing analysis using large data sets and dealing with multi-faceted spreadsheets.
• The ability to communicate complex technical analysis clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences, both verbally and non-verbally.
• Effective stakeholder engagement and the ability to manage contracts for external research and analysis.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a range of government officials and external partners.

Our client is seeking to recruit an assistant economist for a period of three months to provide appraisal and analysis support – in particular to provide economic analysis, appraisal and evaluation of evolving vertical spaceflight grants.

The role would suit an experienced economist with strong micro and macroeconomics skills; in particular, economic appraisal, cost benefit analysis, economic growth and industrial economics. The post holder would benefit from experience of policy or program appraisal (including contributing to business cases and impact assessments) and macroeconomic analysis and briefing.
