Accountant – Cambourne – 12 month contract – £33-40K per annum PAYE

We are currently recruiting for an Accountant to work for a public sector organisation based in Cambourne on a 12 month contract. This role would particularly suit candidates with accountancy experience within a local authority or wider public sector.


  • Prepare financial monitoring reports and projections, in liaison with finance covering revenue and capital, income and expenditure, to ensure that the financial position of the shared planning service is managed.
  • Develop and update financial information to support the medium term financial strategy for the business
  • Work with finance and other service areas across the business
  • Develop and enhance the shared service’s financial processes and systems to ensure that they provide efficient and effective support to the key work areas of budgeting, forecasting, reporting and analysis.
  • Complete benchmarking exercises as required, to identify opportunities for service improvements or efficiencies.
  • Train and supervise staff in the completion and maintenance of tasks within the designated areas of responsibility within the team.
  • Undertake any other duty as required, and deemed appropriate by your line manager

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of working in a finance and accounting role in a complex organisation to include providing advice and guidance on financial processes, procedures and requirements to non-financial managers and staff.
  • CCAB accountancy qualification, or equivalent, or demonstrable experience of working at this level.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant financial legislation.
  • Project management and development skills to provide financial support for projects as required, e.g. alternative delivery models for services.
  • Capable of using the key elements of Microsoft
  • Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) to a high level
  • Capable of using a large financial management system and related reporting software
