			<description>&lt;p&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;ALSTOM GRID UK Ltd - Power Electronics HVDC and FACTS, Stafford is an international leader in Power Electronics and Control Technology, specialising in the engineering of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Systems, Static VAR Compensators (SVC) and other FACTS Systems for power utilities worldwide.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Role&lt;br&gt;Alstom Grid is investing 25M&amp;#8364; in R&amp;D on HVDC over the 3-year plan period 2011-2014. A significant part of this R&amp;D expenditure is related to developing its next generation of power electronics for LCC &amp; VSC applications. At present, all of Alstom&amp;#8217;s HVDC systems are based on the H400 valve of some 10 years vintage.
