Secure HVDC orders.

The Person

The successful candidate will have a degree in Electrical Engineering or related subject with a commercial/legal/sales background. You will have extensive experience in a tendering or project environment and an understanding of Commercial terms & Conditions used in target markets. You will be a competent user of Microsoft Office, with good numeracy and organization skills. You will be fluent in English with excellent communication and people management skills.

You will be educated to ONC/HNC Level or equivalent in Electrical Engineering. Sales experience and a good commercial background are desirable. Good Project Management experience would also be advantageous. You will have knowledge of the Transmission & Distribution Business. Knowledge of the Electrical Distribution Systems and procedures would also be of benefit. Sound High/Low voltage switchgear and transformer background would be desirable. A strong knowledge of the Electrical Industry, EPC and customer base in this segment is essential. Extensive knowledge of Commercial processes is also essential. The Role
Alstom Grid is investing 25M€ in R&D on HVDC over the 3-year plan period 2011-2014. A significant part of this R&D expenditure is related to developing its next generation of power electronics for LCC & VSC applications. At present, all of Alstom’s HVDC systems are based on the H400 valve of some 10 years vintage. The development plan is to replace this with the new H450 power electronics module with alternate application offerings in the form of the state of the art VSC converter technology.

The power electronics development programme therefore includes two parallel work streams:

A bottom –up redesign of the LCC power electronics, designated H450/H460 to be offered in applications from MVDC back-to-back applications to to UHVDC transmission applications providing improvements in valve hall utilization, cost, weight, maintainability & optimised performance.
Industrialization of the VSC converter technology for commercial offering and further development of optimized topologies for future ongoing product enhancement.
